Greetings From The Helm: June 2009

It is June. Public Schools close, brides and grooms take anxious steps toward their future together and our church looks forward to its 5th Annual Golf Tournament.

Gardens are growing, seeds breaking new ground.
Song birds are nesting trilling bright, joyful, sounds.
The Good News uplifting, inspired choral voices
The warm summer Spirit of each heart rejoices.

Children playing, long summer vacation,
Living life at a beach front location.
Families together with so much to do.
God’s Spirit in Church with your family and you!

Well, I guess the unaccustomed warm weather has caused me to wax poetic. Perhaps it has just been a bit of nostalgia for the long ago days of our youth in the face of the task which the Lord has set for us in this era of hardship. But I am buoyed up by my own words in the charge I give to the couples I marry, “By electing to keep Christ in your life you may be assured that you will never be alone; that God will not direct you upon a journey you cannot complete nor will God set before you a task that together (with God) you cannot conquer.”

The question before us is , ‘Do we play the ant or the grasshopper?’ I suggest a short respite from the world. Grasshoppers of the world unite! Rest. Read a book. Catch some rays. The ants at our picnics will remind us of our future obligations and we will ready ourselves for the beauty and duty of winter. I will be on vacation for much of the summer in grasshopper mode. The newsletter is not published in July or August so I pray for the Lord to bless the kind and generous family our church with sunshine, rest, health and happiness.
